Comparing Social Norms in My Last Duchess by Robert...

When one travels, it is easy to observe differences in social norms from country to country. One may also observe differences within a country, for example, the social norms of a small town or village versus those of a large metropolis. Differences in social norms can also be observed in literature. This essay will focus on two dramatic monologues, which were written by poets who lived in England during the same period. Robert Browning published My last Duchess in 1842, the same year that Alfred Tennyson published Ulysses. Both poets lived in England during the Victorian era. However, by examining characters from their poetry, namely Alfonso in My Last Duchess and Odysseus in Ulysses, we can see that they express opposite norms concerning†¦show more content†¦In contrast, Tennyson’s Odysseus doesnt cling to the power, even though he has his own kingdom, which allows him to control his people. Instead, he chooses to â€Å"leave the sceptre and the isle† to his son, Telemachus (Line 34) (Tennyson 645). Then he says, â€Å"When I am gone. [Telemachus] works his works† (Line 43) (Tennyson 645). For this, he has no hesitation to lose his power over people. â€Å"[He] cannot rest from travel: [He] will drink Life to the less: all times [he has] enjoyed Greatly, [has] a suffered greatly† (Line 6-8) (Tennyson 645). Odysseus feels comfort from going around in his past, but now he can’t feel it from unchanged things like staying only in his island to do almost same thing every day. As he says that â€Å"how dull it is to pauses,† resting from his journey is not a great moment for him (Line 22) (Tennyson 645). As we can expect, he should live in luxury more than the other people in his country because he is a kind. But, he expresses that as â€Å"to rust unburnished, not to shine in use† (Line 23) (Tennyson 645). Life that he is away from finding new things doesnt mean anything for him. Whats more, he mentions that â€Å"gleams that untravelled world† (Line 20) (Tennyson 645). Odysseus considers the something new shines on his life and to meet a change isn’t fear. However, Alfonso is opposite from Odysseus. He is afraid of something changes. That’s why he kills his wife, and puts his last wife

Newton the Empiricist Free Essays

Sir Isaac Newton’s discoveries are truly relevant in our world today. His contributions to Physics are nonetheless substantial, especially the Laws of Motion which he established. However, the debate on whether Isaac Newton was a nativist or an empiricist has aroused. We will write a custom essay sample on Newton the Empiricist or any similar topic only for you Order Now Some question Newton’s way of thinking where it breaks down to the belief of being any of nativism or empiricism. Firstly, nativism is the belief which states that people’s skills are natural to them that at birth, everything they need to learn are already coded in their brains, just waiting to be explored and be utilized. Nativists believe that we have brains which are hard wired with the talents and skills. It is more on how we uncover these things that we learn the things around us. The process of acquiring knowledge is just actually relearning what has already been coded in our brains. On the other hand, Empiricism claims that we have been born with a blank slate – tabula rasa, needing to be filled up by learning. We learn through experience in this concept, unlike that of Nativism where we already have the knowledge in the brain, all we need is to gather it and add it up to our knowledge. It emphasizes greatly on experience, where perceiving with our senses play a great role when we form various ideas. This discards the notion of having innate or inborn characteristics which is presented by Nativism. The debate regarding Isaac Newton’s line of thinking arose because of the way he came up with his ideas, the brilliant laws he established which are of great use in our society today. It is not merely being able to come up with the right ideas, but people though that Isaac Newton already knows the things he supposedly has established. But it was Empiricism that Newton believed more. He was more on the philosophy of science which gives a direct association to experiences, which derives data and information by means of experiments. Isaac Newton, as a person of science, underwent every necessary step in order to affirm his ideas. He tested through experiments in order to prove the knowledge he wishes to impart to the people. Theories and hypothesis were tested and some were proven through the use of observations and reasoning (Ess, 2007). Newton has established his own programs in science which he himself used in order to remove the doubts from the hypothesis. His goal as a scientist was to uncover something certain, and not to linger into the uncertainty of things. His principles were established and were drawn from the experiments he conducted and the observations he made for these experiments. This is just a manifestation that he abides in the Empiricist English tradition, just like Francis Bacon, where he comes up with ideas conceived from extensive experimentation and observation. As a man of science, he has always backed his ideas with relevant findings from the experiments that he conducted. He is not contended by assuming something as â€Å"ideally,† instead, he strived to prove such things using his own sets of experiments. Sir Isaac Newton’s findings posed great importance in explaining various things in the human world. Even though there are still some people who question his way of thinking, it is undeniable that what he has conceived were all products of extensive research, of the scientific method which he himself has pioneered and is still being used today. Marketing of Bellamy Organic Australian Food Manufacturing Firm

Question: Discuss about the Marketing of Bellamy Organic. Answer: Introduction: The assignment seeks to explore an organisation and its international marketing approach. Bellamy, the Australian pioneer in organic baby food manufacturing and marketing forms the centre of the study. The paper is divided into four sections followed by a conclusion. The first section gives a brief overview of the company and its operations. The second section is the SWOT analysis of Bellamy while the third section is an analysis of its market. The fourth section recommends a country that the company should enter paying attention to the marketing mix. The chosen country is India and it finds mention throughout the paper to make the study more logical and lucid. Overview of Bellamy: Bellamy is an Australian organic food manufacturing and marketing firm wholly owned by Bellamy Australia which was founded as Tasmanian Pure Food Limited. The company was one of the pioneers of organic baby food and is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. The revenue of the company was over 40 billion Australian dollars. Products: Bellamy manufactures and markets organic food for children which is made from natural ingredients like rice, oats and other naturally available food source. The company aims to make product which are free from chemicals and are easy to digest giving children wholesome nutrition. The baby products are available in three variants-0-6 months, 6-12 months and more than 3 years. The food items include porridge made from rice, ready to serve baby food, milk rusk and cereals. Bellamy also provides guidance to new parents on parenthood which add to the customer benefits (Bellamy's Organic 2017). Current marketing situation and processes: The current market position of Bellamy is very strong owing to the goodwill of being a pioneer in its segment and offering products certified by National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia(NASAA). The company markets its products as premium Australian organic baby food range and holds nearly 95% of the market. As per a leading daily, the Australian infant food manufacturers are expanding into new markets like Asia. Bellamy has a great market share in Asia as well (Song, Wang and Cavusgil 2015). The main marketing strategy of Bellamy in foreign markets like Asia is catering to the baby care concerns of mothers with high quality organic infant food. The company sells non formula based baby food in Singapore and has experienced increase in sales by 200 percent. The failure of Chinese baby food companies to provide organic food has caused death of six babies. Bellamy used this market opportunity to enter Chinese market with its high quality baby food products. Another important process of Bellamy remains its power to create products suiting Chinese tastes like red dates. The wide promotion processes of the company make products available both to the Australian and foreign customers. The company also promotes and sells products online through Alibaba and its won official website (Akerman and Akerman 2017). Product life cycle: The products of Bellamy Organic are in the matured stage of their life cycle. They are well known to customers and enjoy great market position. They are premium products which have allowed the company to expand into the profitable and emerging markets of Asia like China and Singapore. SWOT analysis Strengths Weakness 1. High quality premium products. 2. The products are packed with macronutrients like protein and carbohydrates and micronutrients like vitamins and minerals. They provide wholesome growth infants. 3. The products are organic and free from any chemicals and animal enzymes. 4. Caters to the high income parents who seek quality baby food for their children. 5. The company can cater to the requirements of new markets like China and Singapore. 6. The products can also be ordered online which allows the company to cater to a global consumer base. 1. Very high priced products cannot be affordable by all. 2. Faces strict supervision from government bodies 3. Faces stiff competition from Nestle which is the largest food manufacturer. 4. Has poor physical presence and shipping products from Australia often takes a lot of time. Opportunities Threats 1. Has great scope to explore new markets like India. 2. Enjoys certification from EU which allows it to operate in the developed European markets with high income customers. 3. Carries out innovation and introducing new products. 4. Can expand its product line to compete with competitors like Nestle. For example, manufacturing organic chocolate bars, ice creams and so on. 1. Powerful competitors like Hienz and Nestle. 2. Threats from baby food manufacturers like Amul in India which also manufacturers organic infant food (Amul.com 2017). 3. Complicated legal and government policies governing baby food manufacturers. Analysis Customer market: Bellamy is a premium infant food product and infants are its primary customers. The company manufactures high quality food products which has earned it a high market position in Australia. It seeks to expand its customer market into new host countries like India. The parents and doctors are the secondary customers of the company (Yiannakis, Girard and MacDonald 2014). Current segmentation: The current market segmentation of Bellamy is the new born babies, babies with a year old and infants older than that. The financially market segmentation of the company shows that it caters to the upper class of the society who can afford premium baby food. Recommendations of entering a suitable country-India: The company must offer high quality baby food products in India. The reason for this is that India herself has a huge cattle population which can provide with high quality milk as raw materials. Bellamy should price its products a bit lower than Australia because India already has competitors like Nestle and Amul. These companies provide high quality organic baby food which are affordable. Hence, in order to compete with these rivals Bellamy should adopt appropriate pricing strategies in India (Trebbin 2014). Bellamy should set its own chain to distribution to promote and distribute its products. India has big retail chains like Spencer which cater to the financially strong customers. The country has a wide range of retail shops which provide deep market penetration. The country has also experienced a digital boom and has emerged as one of the biggest online market for ecommerce companies. Bellamy should use these three modes, retail chains, retail shops and digital platforms to promote and sell its products (Venkatesh, Rathi and Patwa 2015). The company should work towards sustainable development of the suppliers like cow owners to create a stronger social image (Zhang, Jiang and Li 2014). Conclusion: The paper shows that international expansion is based on the capacity of a company to understand the market requirements and adapt its strategies accordingly. Bellamy was able to cater to the demands in the Chinese market which helped it to replace even the local companies. The company should enter India with its products which will give it a stronger hold that is enjoyed by Nestle and Hienz. References: Akerman, P. and Akerman, P. 2017. Firms feasting on Asian demand. Dick cheney's influence on foreign policy in the white house Essay

Dick cheney's influence on foreign policy in the white house - Essay Example He is the vortex in the White House on foreign policymaking. Everything comes through him† (Slavin & Page, 2003). This discussion examines this statement which reflects common perceptions regarding Cheney’s exceptional authority. When the current President Bush, with no previous foreign policy knowledge chose Dick Cheney, the Secretary of Defense under the first president Bush, as his Vice presidential nominee, it came to no one’s surprise that Cheney would have strong influence in these matters. However, early in the first term, the President was perceived as being surrounded by four equally powerful advisers, Secretary of State Colin Powell, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Because of the President’s inexperience, Powell being kept in relative isolation from decision strategy sessions and Rice’s relegation as a coordinator, not a policy maker, both Cheney and Rumsfeld controlled foreign policy decisions. Though Powell left his position after the first term which Rice later accepted, the Cheney/Rumsfeld monopoly of foreign affair decision making remained unaffected. Currently, Cheney is undoubtedly the person shaping foreign policy and his staff is considered more influential than that of the National Security Council. Participants at upper-level foreign policy meetings have remarked that Cheney usually just asks questions and divulges little about his viewpoints regarding the discussions saving his opinions for private meetings with Bush. Cheney’s foreign affair positions may be obscured from the public and even the inner-circle at the White House but the impacts of those opinions have been front page news. Administration officials commented that Cheney produced the administration’s approach in the war on terrorism and toughened Bush’s determination to maintain the United State’s

Everything you need to kow about a computer mouse Essay

Everything you need to kow about a computer mouse - Essay Example Dr. Douglas Carl Engelbart of Stanford Research Institute (SRI) invented the mouse in early 1960s. He worked with Bill English, the man behind the hardware design of the first mouse. Engelbart's innovative ideas changed the way working with computers, from a more complicated to a user-friendly machine. The results of analyzing different characteristics of pointing input devices (such as speed and accuracy) led to the invention of the first prototype computer mouse. Engelbart first called this device as "X-Y Position Indicator for a Display System," wherein it received its patent number 3,541,541 on November 17, 1970. According to an interview, Douglas Engelbart said, "SRI patented it, but they really had no idea of its value. Some years later I learned that they had licensed it to Apple for something like $40,000." So, how did this device get its popular name At first, it had its cord in front, so it was termed "mouse" and that's were it got its smart name. However, they later on changed the cord's position as the present mouse is. In early 1970s, Bill English invented the so-called "ball mouse" while he was working for Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). In 1981, Xerox Corporation introduced Star, officially known as the 8010 Star Information System, which features various technologies including mouse. Inspired by Xerox Star, Apple Computer released Apple Macintosh in 1984, which made mouse popular and indispensable for computer use. II. TYPES There are three basic types of mouse: mechanical, optomechanical, and optical mouse. Mechanical mouse has a rubber or metal ball at the base that moves against two rollers as it passed across a flat surface. As the ball rolls on a certain direction, circuits in the mouse translate its movement into signals the computer understands. Mechanical mouse must be place on a mouse pad - a rectangular rubber that provides better traction than the top of the desk. Optomechanical mouse works on the same principal as the mechanical mouse but uses optical sensors to detect the motion of the ball. Optical mouse on the contrary, has no moving mechanical parts inside. Instead, it uses light-emitting diodes (LED) to detect the mouse's movement. It is more efficient than mechanical and optomechanical mice but is also more expensive. III. CONNECTIONS A mouse can connect to your computer in several ways. Serial mouse connects directly to RS-232C serial port. Bus mouse connects directly on a small round connector (female mini-DIN-9), but this is pretty well obsolete because this mouse is difficult to install. PS/2 connects to a PS/2 connector (female mini-DIN-6); it's installed as simple as any serial mouse. Cordless mouse uses is a battery-powered device that transmits data using infrared technology of radio waves to communicate with the computer. Some users prefer to use cordless mouse because it frees him from the hassles of cords and provides much desk space. USB mouse is the easiest mouse you can connect in your computer, even when your computer is running. IV. SPEED Mouse speed is expressed in DPI (dots per inch), which is the number of pixels the mouse cursor will move when the mouse is moved one inch. V. INNOVATIONS AND ALTERNATIVE DEVICES a. Trackball is an input device with a ball mounted in its surface, which rotates to control the position of the cursor. b. Touchpad is an input device

My Philosophy of Education Leadership Personal Statement - 1

My Philosophy of Education Leadership - Personal Statement Example Proper administration and leadership of schools becomes important in this perspective. To be specific, according to the 21st century view point, there are certain values which a school administrator should follow in order to ensure that the education is being imparted properly and also to make sure that the knowledge lines are kept up to date. The leader of a school must have a clear picture about the educational system and he must be able to provide the environment for effective impartment of knowledge to the students. The proverb says, â€Å"Leader knows the way and leader shows the way.† In other words, the administrator must be able to properly guide the teachers so as to ensure the proper learning of the pupils, and, at the same time, he must be a source of positive vibrations for the students. He must be able to encourage them to learn their topics well and to teach them to pursue their own good careers. He must be dedicated to inculcate a good character in every pupil while making one a knowledge-rich person. There is an opinion that â€Å"the practice of educational leadership is a form of philosophy in action, that is an area of philosophical practice† (Codd, 1989, p.157). The administrator should have a clear picture about what is being taught and how things must be taught. Proper knowledge in these areas is essential to impart education in a proper way. You can guide someone only if you know the right way. Therefore, thorough knowledge about the curriculum becomes an essential requirement as far as a school administrator is concerned. He should also have subtle knowledge about modern teaching methodologies which inevitably incorporate technology in education. The administration and staff of an educational institution must work as a team in order to provide proper knowledge to the children. The administrator must be keen in enhancing the skills and subject knowledge of the teachers and keep them updated. Seminars and workshops should be arranged

Global Capitalism and the Environment

Global Capitalism and the Environment Tong Huong Ly Abstract: A lot of researchers have examined the connection between capitalism and environmentalism. In this paper, I draw on those resources to build my argument. Firstly, I argue that capitalism has encouraged environmentalism by blurring boarders and distance. In particular, technological advances have supported interconnections between places and allowed people to work together to protect the environment. This point is supported by (1) the analysis of environmental justice and (2) the example of social media in environmental protest. Secondly, I contend that, capitalism has also strengthened the specificity of places. Climate change’s effects vary between nations, as well as, local regions. Environmental justice is revisited, with an example of the aftermath of Katrina Hurricane in New Orleans. I expand my argument by discussing the different ability of countries to reduce climate change, hence, different approaches must be developed. I conclude that when facing environmen talism, even though capitalism has significantly reduced border barriers and imposed a sense of placelessness, human experiences are still shaped by local geographies. Thus, the role of places is a topic worth a close look. KEY WORDS: capitalism, globalisation, environmentalism, dislocation, local geography. Research Scope: Theoretical aspect: Environmental justice is defined as ‘an attempt to broaden the definition and scope of environmentalism to include basic needs of poor and politically less powerful group.’ This promotes equality for all humans, regardless of their locations (Scholesberg, 2007). Geographical areas: Social media: Twitter played an important role in the Protest at 2009 United Nations Climate Summit in Copenhagen (#thewave). Twitter provides a cyber space that connects people from different places around the world. Activists can utilise this to structure and enable the protest to take place (Ward, 2009). This is an evidence of how technological advances, developed by capitalism, can overcome distance barriers and connect people, thus, encouraging the social movement of environmental justice. (Segerberg Bennett, 2011) The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans: Human experiences after the hurricane are distinguished by their level of wealth. In particular, affluent people are able to hire workers to return to New Orleans and hire workers to set up and clean their houses. Meanwhile, poor working class could not rely on anyone to do the work but themselves (Allen, 2007). This is a proof of environmental injustice, which signifies how human experiences can be shaped by local geographies. Essay plan: I, Introduction (200 words): Introduce key arguments. II, Body (1550 words): 1, A sense of dislocation (800 words): Explain how capitalism had affected to environmentalism in a global scale: a, Capitalism’s bad effects on the environment: (200 words) Capitalism has led to escalating emission of greenhouse gases, land use changes, which has significant effects on a global scale (Clark York, 2005). This experience is shared by all humans and non-humans. b, Capitalism encourages environmentalism: (200 words) Capitalism is a major force for globalisation. Globalisation has supported increasing telecommunication, which allows countries to work together to reduce climate change. Use example: Earth Summit. Leaders of many countries come together to discuss the most suitable course of actions for environmentalism development. This transcends borders. (United Nations, 1992, 2002) Internet interconnects people in different places. People come together in one cyber space to discuss environmentalism and take actions. Distance is minimised. c, Link to environmental justice: (200 words) Define environmental justice Explain Scholosberg’s environmental justice approach. (Scholesberg, 2007) => Everybody works towards a better outcome for environment and humans, aiming to achieve equality regardless of places. d, An example of environmental justice movement : (200 words) Environmental justice is not only a research subject but also a social movement that relies on collective actions. Use example: Twitter’s role (#thewave) in the protest at 2009 United Nations Climate Summit in Copenhagen (Segerberg Bennett, 2011) Result: 50,000 people turned out to the march. It was ‘the biggest climate change march in the world ever!’ (Stop Climate Change Chaos Coalition, 2009) => Social media have blurred barriers and borders. 2, Specifity of places still exist (750 words): a, Capitalism leads to environmental injustice in different nations/ locations (250 words): Global scale: Developed countries try to dump waste to developing countries. Use Chief of World Bank’s quote in 1991 (Frey, 1998). Developing countries are forced to face more by environmental threats. Use World Health Organisation statistics (Frechette, 2002). b, Link to environmental justice (250 words): National scale: minority communities are affected more. Use New Orleans (a local scale) as case study. Human experiences are shaped by their level of wealth (Allen, 2007). c, Different ability to address environmentalism: (250 words) The ability to reduce climate change differs amongst countries. Eg: Developed countries with advanced technology are able to do more than developing countries (Mikler Harrison, 2012). ‘Internet is global in its reach, but territorially uneven in its layout’ (Castells, 2001: 209). Infrastructure differs, leading to uneven access to online social movement. Each country must have different approaches to climate change. Experiences are still highlighted by local geographies. III, Conclusion (200 words): Summarise key arguments. Suggest the importance of places in environmentalism approach. Reference list: Allen, B. L. (2007). Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury :: Ray Bradburys Fahrenheit 451

Fahrenheit 451   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ray Bradbury Guy Montag is a fireman in the future in charge of burning books. On his way home from work one evening, he meets his new neighbor, an inquisitive 17-year-old girl named Clarisse McClellan. She asks him about his job and tells him she comes from a strange family that does such peculiar things as talk to each other and walk places (being a pedestrian is, like reading, against the law). She asks him if he is happy and then disappears into her house. The meeting disturbs Montag, who is not used to talking with people. He goes home and realizes he is not happy, that his appearance of happiness up to this point has been just a mask. He finds his wife, Mildred, in bed listening to earplug radios, just as he has found her every night for the past two years. He finds an empty bottle of sleeping pills by her bed and calls the emergency hospital just as a sonic boom from a squadron of jet bombers shakes the house. The hospital sends out two workers with machines that pump Mildred's stomach and replace all her blood with fresh blood. Montag goes outside and listens to the laughter and the voices coming from the McClellan house. Montag goes in again and considers all that has happened to him that night and feels terribly disoriented as he takes a sleep lozenge and dozes off. The next day, Mildred remembers nothing about her attempted suicide and denies it when Montag tries to tell her about it. He leaves for work and finds Clarisse outside walking in the rain, catching it in her mouth. She rubs a dandelion under her chin and says it means she's in love when the pollen rubs off on her. She rubs it under his chin, but no pollen rubs off. She asks him why he chose to be a fireman and says he is unlike the others she has met, who will not talk to her or listen to what she says to them. He tells her to get along to her appointment with her psychiatrist. After she is gone, he tilts his head back and catches the rain in his mouth for a few moments. Montag reaches down to touch the Mechanical Hound in the fire station, and it growls at him and threatens him. Montag tells Captain Beatty what happened and suggests that someone may have

Information technology professional must have high of motivation or ethics in them self because they faced with the information technology where they need facing on the information technology which can process the data that need to manage, analyze, design, implement, control, maintenance and storing. It is mostly referring to the hardware that is familiar to process the data or information like computer. As the information technology professional, sometimes they need to face with any challenges when their work in order to accomplish something work that need to be done.It is the problem that the information technology professional in their profession. When the challenges or any issues that they need to faced, information 2 IMS657 Legal and Ethical Aspect of Information System technology professional need to try the best to find the solution to o vercome their problem and it is their roles and responsibilities. It is mostly refer to the ethics of information technology professional on how they handle some issues or any challenges in their work or job. 2. 0Methodology In completing this term paper, primary and secondary literatures are used to enable in depth understanding of the importance ethics among information technology professional. For the primary literatures in order to complete this term paper, mostly I used observation method by review all the article that is related to the ethics among information technology professional. Besides that, I used secondary data where I refer to the sources that are related to the topic that I focused on such as books, article journals, internet sources and so on.From the primary and secondary literature, I know about the challenges that are faced by information technology professional and the issues that are come up today. From the challenges or the issues, information technology prof essional need to think on how to overcome the problem that they need to faced and find the alternative or the solution to overcome it. It is based on their behavior on how they can settle their problem. The primary and secondary literature method that are used, is very crucial thing to know on what happened among the information technology professional that are based on their behavior or ethics. IMS657 Legal and Ethical Aspect of Information System 3. 0 Definitions and concept of ethics There are various definitions of ethics. According to the Britz, J. J. which come from department of Information Science University of Pretoria, he defines ethics as the individual action either good or bad and he told that ethics in the general term which make the people come as the fully human. He prefer to the use of technology that are threat to the right of privacy of a person. As a person, ethics is very importance thing in our daily activities. As we know that, ethics is referring to the variou s styles. Maybe, ethics might be as the national ethics, social ethics, company ethics, and family ethics and can be professional ethics. What is ethics? According to Sir Aristotle which is the famous philosopher, ethics is the custom, character or the habit of a person and in the simplest word; it can be defined as the system of the moral principles. It is worked out from human reason and experience by human action that determines either right or wrong. But, a sociologist like Dr.Raymond Baumhart said that ethics is can be divided into two divisions which is rights, obligations, benefit to the society, fairness of specifics virtue. It is refer to the moral beliefs. Secondly, ethics refer to the study and development of the standards of the ethical. So, ethics told that on how the people lead their lives and making the decisions. Today, we know that everybody needs to be fast and smart. For the information technology professional money is very importance thing but not in their caree r life.It is means that, career as the information technology professional will followed by their effort directly money is their reward on their effort. For the powerful organizations, information technology professional mostly refer to the ethics as the guidelines to achieve the goal of an organization. According to the Jefferson, guideline is crucial things because ethical principles that are provided will assist them in the many of the professional decisions they will make. Lacovino stated that ethics is the reasoned process but not just how we feel about something because it can be a habitual when we set a value to apply consistently. Some of the researcher defined the ethics as the agent where it refers to the agent processes or action. When we come up with the professional ethics, means that what the person who is professional should do or should not do within the organization or outside the organization. That are stated by Mclarty (2007) but Worthington (2008) told that in dev eloping any information 4 IMS657 Legal and Ethical Aspect of Information System technology, professional ethical issues can be occur. Nowadays, the modern world, all the services like internet allow people to connect quickly to the information technology system. So, Worthington states that professionals are more likely to confront ethical issues when dealing with the internet and World Wide Web (WWW). In this term paper, I mostly focused to the importance of ethics among information technology professional. When we talk about the information technology professional, it will focus on computer professional field. Being the IT professional, it is must be good certificates in information technology with their knowledge and their skill. It is the powerful tool for providing job and the business opportunities and for meeting challenges in information technology field.First, the importance of ethics among information technology professional is responsible to ensure that computer technology does not used in the wrong ways which can harm people, environment and the society. That why information technology professional need to be fair, loyal, honest and have ethical in its practices because they want to be an employee where they work for an organization and make the organization become success. With the good ethics or behavior among IT professional, they will work comfortably without feel tired on their job and responsible in term of care of the data or information in the system. With the ethics of the employee directly they can contribute better for an organization. Besides that, the importance thing among the information technology professional is access the data. According to Gordana (2003), to perform the computer or information technology professional job, they will require to access the data only in order to complete their task that they want to do. Besides that, to complete their task, they are very careful in order to use the right time to complete their task beca use they will plan better first so that each of the task can be settle step by step.It is also because of the thinking of the information technology professional which is very high level thinking by using the technology that are provided in an organization or they own technology. Therefore, quality of the data that they want to access is the factor that they should consider so that the task must be done properly in a good manner. So, in order to do the task by information technology professional, they will not concern at all whether the task or the job is complete or not and without any concentration that are cause by improper ethics education. The other importance of ethics among information echnology professional is the procedure of information technology process that will keep in secret. According to Dahlbom and Mathiasan, information technology 5 IMS657 Legal and Ethical Aspect of Information System professional just only participate in development the task, it objective and the context explicitly. For the information technology professional, it is very importance things for big organization in order to survive the industry because they have own strategy that need to do or any benchmark which it can be the key success of the business today for them.Allocated the resources is also the importance of ethics among the information technology professional. They must be professional and more responsible and punctual in complete the task that they need do and need to be done properly. It is because information technology professional like computer professional, just only take part in project with the time and the resources that are assigned which can make it possible to deliver a good job.Nevertheless, living in this era or modern information technology will happen something that are very wrong through the law which is computer crime and it is the one of the problems that need to be faced by information technology where it can attack an organization in term of vir uses and hackers that getting widespread over the years it is because Bynum (2001) stated that logical security can be divided into five aspects such as consistency by ensuring the data and behaviour can being see today and same with tomorrow, privacy and confidentially, controlling the access to the resources, not modified the data and the programs without proper authority in integrity and last but not list is in aspect unimpaired service. As we know that nowadays, there are many malicious kids of software that being used to access certain system without authorization. Viruses, Trojan horse, worms and logic bombs are some of the example that can harm the computer system in an organization. It is show that unethical action happened there which could make breaking the company system and could be penalized due to the unauthorized access.Because of that, information technology professional should be concerns on the ethics that should be apply in information technology themselves or the professional people who involved computer science so that, they could achieve a great environment information technology industries. At the same time, it can improved performance an individual in information technology field. Other than that, the importance of ethics among the information technology professional also will increase of respect among the professional people. When talk about the respect it is come from the cooperation between the team member which contribute to the development of the project that should be do by them and the 6 IMS657 Legal and Ethical Aspect of Information System evelopers of the system understand the users needs because from that, information technology can find the opportunities in order to develop some of the project to fulfil the user requirements. Besides that, ethics in information technology professional can leads the user or customer satisfaction. As an example, computer professional will develop the systems that are related to the technology i n order to satisfy the interest of the users and directly can bring the good work environment by develop system. it will show that the performance of an organization if the information technology involve under the organization and make them become more professional in term of manage of information technology that are very importance in each of an organization in the world. 4. 0Ethics conceptual Theory Ethical theory provides framework to get at underlying rationale, classify and understand arguments and defend conclusion about right and wrong that have in ethical perspectives. Deontology People should follow to their obligations and duties when analyzing an ethical dilemma and it is very consistent decisions. Utilitarianism The ability to predict the sequences of action in order to determine which choice is Ethical Theory more beneficial. Right It is considered to be ethically correct and valid to the society. Virtue Judge a person by the character rather than by an action they may clash from the normal behavior. 7 IMS657 Legal and Ethical Aspect of Information SystemFigure 1: Ethics Theory All the ethical theory or concept above is define by the people who is expert in information technology profession or sociologist that are concern with the ethics and it is very importance that need to apply in information technology professional. 5. 0 Challenges in Encouraging Ethical Behaviors among Information technology professional. There are several common challenges in developing ethical in information technology professional. Information technology needs to alert with their surrounding because many challenges that they need to faced when they complete their task within the organization. Below are the challenges that are faced by information technology professional in managed their information technology equipment and services. 5. Facing with computer crimes As we know that, nowadays is the modern world. Therefore, all the technology that is used today mostly shows t he advanced technology. We know that media technology or the communication technology is very familiar to the people and the importance things is to the organization that are used the technology to implement and maintained the task in order to achieve the goals of an organization. But, when we deal with the advanced technology, the information technology professional need to be careful by used they ethical in term of complete the task. In this times, there are most of computer viruses and added with the hacker which also known as international spy. Here, the computer security is the crucial thing that needs to consider in the field of computer ethics by the information technology professional. By the way, the problem that is faced by them is not on the physical security but in term of logical security like privacy and confidentially, controlling access to the resources and so on. Hackers which are the person who breaks into someone computer system without any permission directly can steal the data of an organization or privacy information. 5. 2 Intellectual property rights connected with software ownership. In this aspect of challenges ethics or the right. Many people think that software should be own able.Intellectual property is the one of the controversial areas of computer ethics. Some people think that software ownership not be allowed 8 IMS657 Legal and Ethical Aspect of Information System at all and all the information should be free, all programs should be available for copying. In term of that, it is very wrong ways according o the laws that are provided. As the information technology professional ethics, they need to know who take their intellectual property properly. 5. 3 Computer condition in the workplace that need to be concern As the information technology professional, the challenges that they faced is condition of the computer itself.Because of the computer always run to manage the data that are store in the system and to implement the data, ma ybe it will make the system down because the computer itself does not rest. When the system down happened that will make the information technology professional lack of ethics in order to monitor the system. 5. 4 Information privacy Privacy is the one of the computer ethics that need to be develop by public interest. The efficiency of the computer network can be used to gather the information, store, and search and retrieved the information making the computer technology treating anyone to keep various kind of information that are privacy. It is the challenges also that are faced by the information technology professional especially sensitive information like medical record. Because nowadays, the people think so far in order to get the information and make it as the basic information that is not importance. It is because of the hacker that wants the information. Therefore, information privacy nowadays also does not secure in hundred percent. 5. 5 Globalization In term of globalizatio n, computer ethics today is rapidly involved in more importance field. It is also can be known a global information ethics. Global networks like internet will connect people all over the world. Globalization refers to the variety of used like global cyber business, global education and so on.The world is very close to the technology which can provide electronic privacy and security on the interne in order to connect the international business transactions. This challenges is very familiar nowadays, because in 9 IMS657 Legal and Ethical Aspect of Information System transaction of the business today cheating and fraud in business always happened. 6. 0 Recommendations to address the challenges in encouraging ethical behaviors among information technology professional In response to the challenges that are stated above, several recommendations are proposed as follow: 6. 1 Government should have a strict action with the computer crime. To address the challenges, I recommended that govern ment of each country in the world should be strict to the computer crime based on the computer crime act. There, people who involved in the investigation of the computer crime should find the people who do the wrong things in using computer until the people who make computer crime can be punished so that we can reduced the number of computer crime directly make it very clear. There, no give up action should behave but always find the ways on how to catch them. 6. 2 Discuss with the team member In this point, that I recommend, means that all the information technology professional that are deal with the information technology, should discuss everything about the problem or the challenges that they faced in manage the technology and the system. For example, when people used t software and sale that software without any permission of the software ownership, they could discuss about it on their intellectual property on how to take the action to the people who wrong in that situation. From the discussion with the team member, it will provide more decision and the best decision will be used to settle that problem. That is the good ethics when working in the group as the information technology professional. 6. 3 Told the society about the act of privacy We know that, government today implement the act of privacy but the society does not know about the act anymore. It is because the society today lack of information that they should know. When we told them about the act of 10 IMS657 Legal and Ethical Aspect of Information System privacy, they will know what might be right and what might be wrong. From there, the act of privacy will be clear to the society. 6. 4Motivate the information technology professional In order to motivate the information technology professional, the top management in an organization should lead them in order to motivate them. Top management in an organization should remind the information technology professional when they do their job or work. It s very importance thing to do where the top manager alert with the leadership style or skill in each of the organization. Top manager should support their staff so that they will motivate to accomplish the task that is given. 6. 5 Organized seminar Some of the organization should organize the seminar o that all people involved in the seminar programmed.Especially, seminar about the information technology professional where the audience of the seminar will focus on the information technology department in term of tell about the ethics of information technology professional includes their roles and responsible. Told them on how to faced the problem or any challenges and on how to overcome it immediately. 11 IMS657 Legal and Ethical Aspect of Information System 7. 0 Conclusion As the conclusion, by applying the ethics among the information technology, it will make the organization become more success and will make the individual become more talent when deal with something issues and a ny challenges that they need to face. By the ethics in themselves, will make them more professional in handling the information technology directly deals with the user or customer of the system. So, ethics is a set of principle that should have in all the people itself but not just only in information technology professional only. The importance of ethics among information technology professional should be concern by the people so that the environment of information technology become more special to the user and people who in charge on it. By applying the ethics also, we could determine that the right and wrong of an individual action. But, it is depending to the situation that is faced by the people. Therefore, with the ethics, information technology can avoid from the unethical action like unauthorized access, plagiarism, disturbing people privacy hacking the information and etc. ecause of that, information technology profession, need to concern the code of ethics so that the indiv idually performance could be improve and directly improve the company or organization itself in order to achieve the organization goals, vision, mission and objectives. 12 IMS657 Legal and Ethical Aspect of Information System 8. 0 References Bynum. Obesity in america Essays

Obesity in america Essays Obesity in america Essay Obesity in america Essay IBM is calculated from a persons weight and height and provides a reasonable indicator of body fatness. Obesity is Just about everywhere you look, a guy walking down the street, in the park on a bench or at fast food restaurant. Becoming overweight is becoming a fad here in America and many other countries, but some people dont realize that being overweight can change your life and not for the good. There are many ways that obesity can be helped it Just all starts with motivation and some hard work. Obesity is an ongoing struggle with Americans and society is not helping at all. I mean yes they say go out and exercise and get rock hard abs for the beach. But then you see signs on the road that says McDonalds dollar menu exit 160. Everyone knows that the way the economy is today they would much rather save some money and work for money than work out or eat healthier. People think they are invincible and harmful effects that come with obesity will not come to them. What some people do not understand is that there are many affects that come with being overweight all the ay from stress, diabetic, and even death. In this paper I will talk about ways to exercise, eat healthy, affects it can have on your body and some common facts that obesity causes and how fast food restaurants have an affects in this. 58 million people are overweight, 40 million are obese, and 3 million are morbidly obese. So that makes 8 out of 10 people you meet are overweight. Just think about it next time you are in a crowd of people. The reason this is true is because 78% of Americans do not meet the basic activity level recommended to be fit. There is a difference in being overweight and being obese, the way you find out is by figuring out your body mass index. For a considerably healthy person is between 18 and 25. Overweight is 25 to 20 and being obese is anything over 30. If a person wants to find out what category they are in it is easy you can go to a health clinic or you can calculate it yourself. Childhood obesity has more than tripled over the last 30 years. This makes it 1 out of every 3 American kids you see are overweight or obese. Childhood obesity is not the number 1 health concern with parents that even beat smoking and drug abuse. Today obesity has a wide range of health problems that were not seen till the children were older. Types of health problems that can occur when children start out obese or overweight are: high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol. Also a big problem that a child can see being overweight are psychological effects. These affects can have a factor for the rest over their lives, such as low self-esteem, depression, no confidence. With all of these the individual may think he or she is UN loved or no one wants to be there friend. Researchers say obese children are more keel to die before reaching age 55 than those who are at a healthier rate. A lot of the people that are overweight do not pay attention or even know what the risks are. Also some of these health related problems could changes a persons life. 80 percent of people who are obese have type two diabetes. 70 percent have cardiovascular disease, 42 percent have breast and colon cancer, 30 percent have gall bladder surgery and at least 26 percent have high blood pressure. There are many more health related problems that can occur. 40 percent of overweight people overweight you can have a chance of getting cancer, or have heart disease or a stroke. From the leading causes of death there are heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and all of these can be a cause of being obese. While being overweight you are putting a lot of stress on your Joints and bones more than they can normally handle. With this it can lead too high risk of developing arthritis. Also it is said that you can have sleep apneas which can cause you to snore or even lose some sleep. It can increase the risk of having breast cancer in men and women. Obesity is the most common factor of nonalcoholic psychotherapists, which is major cause of liver disease. Just as in children an individual can have psychological issues with being overweight. Brings an amount of stress to their life and when an overweight person gets stressed their blood pressure goes up and when it goes up it is bad for their health. The thing than hurts the most in the psychological effect with being overweight is that the individual has no confidence. Which can mean the individual do not believe in them at all to succeed in life. In the fast food world many would say that this is a strong reason why America is overweight. I mean think about it obesity has grown over the last forty years and so have fast food companies. One big fast food restaurant is McDonalds and it expanding it franchise all over American and even international now. I have even heard some people say it is not a town unless it has a McDonalds in it. Researchers say that having a fast food restaurant 0. 10 miles away from your house than the chances of becoming obese is raised by 5. 2 percent. The easiest way to start exercising while being overweight is Just by getting up and doing some low moderate workout that last at least 30 minutes a day. These exercise could include walking, running, aerobic exercise, and other physical activity. Exercising can be fun sometimes it is all on the individual who can make up his own mind. Possible exercises you can do are dancing, a pickup game of basketball or football, some video games, and many more types out there. Some morbidly obese people have a lot harder time exercising than others because a gym bike may be too small for them or some exercise are impossible to do with their size. Just by exercising it has several benefits such as reducing heart disease or stroke also lowers blood pressure, colon cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure. Helps prevent bone fractures in older adults, from when they fall or doing a physical activity. It reduces anxiety and depression and in doing this it can boost your mood. Handle stress a lot better and best of all gives you more energy and helps you sleep better. With all of your self-esteem will go up significantly. Eating right is Just as important as exercising. Eating healthy is a great way to help a person even manages your weight. The way I view eating healthy is by making the non obvious choice at meals. Make sure you always eat at least 3 meals a day, and a snack between meals so you dont starve yourself. Stay away from soda and have some water every once and awhile. No fast food and with doing all of this you will feel as if you have more energy towards the end of each and every day. Fast food is a killer to Just about everyone in American because it is cheap and easy to make a meal out of. It is more tempting to go and get a burger for a dollar than to have some salad that could be a dollar plus. As of not fast food is not going anywhere because of the Overall there are ways that you can help yourself with staying physically fit and eating healthy. All it takes is some motivation and self-esteem to start working out and getting yourself in better condition. Being overweight can bring great harm to your body and life. With eating healthy dont always say no to the obvious choices Just start small. On exercising start small work out 30 minutes a day even if it is Just walking. Get the right amount of sleep so you do not get exhausted or lazy on doing workouts. It all starts somewhere and why not to

Well, were here to tell you its not all magical. As you can see from these intricate spreadsheets and notes, crafting a novel takes a whole lot of careful planning. Just click on any of the following spreadsheets and scribbles for a closer look to find out. This first is from none other than J. K. Rowling, who planned out all seven books of her Harry Potter series before she had even started writing the second. Heres part of her plan for Order of the Phoenix: In the columns, Rowling separates each chapter by its subplots; she lists, Prophecy, O of P (Order of the Phoenix), Cho/Ginny (the romantic subplot of the novel), Snape, and Hagrid as different  story lines  to help her keep track of the plot. For a zoomed in look at the detailed spreadsheet, click here. Even more intricate than Rowlings, though, are Joseph Hellers plans for Catch-22, the entirety of which can be seen in very tiny writing below. I would explain this one, but its about as complicated as the premise of the novel itself. If youre a die-hard Heller fan, spend a good ten minutes zooming into the full-scale version here. Not all novel plans are restricted to pen and paper, though. In fact, some of them cant help but to burst out onto the walls, as Faulkners plot for A Fable famously did: The planning of this Pulitzer Prize winning novel took place at Faulkners Rowan Oak home, which is now open to tourists. It was certainly an ingenious way to immerse himself in his story, but legend has it not everybody was quite so pleased with the method William Faulkner, using a graphite pencil and red grease pencil, penned the outline of  The Fable  on the walls of his Mississippi office. Faulkners wife, disappointed with this decision, had the walls repainted. In return, Faulkner rewrote the outline and then shellacked the wall to ensure a permanent record. Nobel Prize-winning author, yes. Home decorator, I think not. For some other fun and inspiring articles, check out the full gallery from Flavorwire, then tell us which novel youd most like to see the plans of in a comment below.

Miles Davis and Kind of Blue Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Miles Davis and Kind of Blue - Essay Example This "Miles Davis and Kind of Blue" describes the career of Miles Davis, his contribution in jazz music and his album "Kind of Blue". The album in focus, Kind of Blue, was first released in 1959. The importance of this album lies apart from the importance of the innovations that it brought into the field of jazz, in the fact that it is the highest selling jazz album of all time. Its historical importance can be gauged from this fact itself. This album is unique as a result of the revolutionary impact of the chord changes that it effected in the structure of the jazz song. The melody of the song was earlier created through a structure that would be written earlier. However, with the introduction of modal jazz that was not exactly a Davis innovation, there was considerable scope for innovation as the melody was created through changes in the modes of the scale rather than the changes in chords. The dependence on chord was changed in a massive way when it came to Kind of Blue. This is t he reason as to why Davis is considered one of the greatest innovators of the genre. The technique of improvisation was built into the very structure of the composition and melody whereby the progression of the song could then happen through a process of improvisation on the part of the singer. Brought about by Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker, this revolution was brought to its logical conclusion by Miles Davis through Kind of Blue, his greatest album (Kaplan). One of the main genres of the twentieth century as far as music is concerned, is jazz. Apart from the innovations that it introduced into other forms of music, it is also significant for its political importance as a genre that represented the aspirations and cultures of African American communities. The genre provided a voice to several people over the ages, voices that had been marginalized in the schemes of things as they existed earlier. The importance of jazz also lies in the way in which it was used to talk of certain issues that failed to be highlighted earlier as a result of the lack of an appropriate form of music or art. The emergence of jazz gave Black musicians an outlet through its freewheeling style that did not impose any

Blood pressure Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Blood pressure - Assignment Example 298). Cardiac output refers to the amount of blood the heart can pump with each beat. Cardiac output and blood pressure have direct correlation thus, the more blood the heart can pump, the greater is the cardiac output, leading to increase blood pressure. The same correlation applies to blood volume or the amount of blood in the blood vessels at any given time. Thus, a decrease in blood volume will lead to decrease blood pressure, and vice-versa. Resistance to blood flow is another factor affecting blood pressure and pertains to how hard it is for the blood to flow through the vessels. A narrowed blood pressure will increase the resistance to blood flow leading to increase blood pressure. Likewise, a widened blood vessel will decrease the resistance to blood flow leading to decrease blood pressure. Carterand Lewsen (2005) also identified influencing factors of blood pressure such as age, gender, and race (p. 298). Normal and abnormal blood pressures are determined through systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure readings. Systolic blood pressure is the pressure exerted by blood during heart contraction while diastolic blood pressure is the pressure exerted by blood during heart relaxation (Rosdahland Kowalski, 2008, p. 523). Blood pressure is measured in milimeters of mercury (mm Hg) and the normal blood pressure is

Gender Socialization Essay Example for Free

Gender Socialization Essay The term, gender, refers to the socially learned expectations and behaviors associated with being male or female. Gender affects socialization in many ways, and begins primarily at birth. Gender affects how parents treat their children, how the work field treats males and females, and how each gender chooses friends. The gender of a child is extremely important to the parent. The gender will guide the parent on how to raise and treat the child. Parents are more likely to be more stern and rough with a baby boy rather than a baby girl. Parents of a girl are likely to be more gentle, soft, and patient with the new baby. This gender socialization example is due to our masculine and feminine culture. The most important and obvious gender socialization example is in the work field. Gender greatly affects the socialization process between males and females. Males are considered to be strong and powerful, while females are thought to be weak and secondary. From the beginning of time, men were to work hard and provide for the family, while females were to take care of the home and children. Today, men are still more likely to be powerful leaders, CEO’s, etc†¦ however; many women are top executives and are very capable of being so. Finally, gender affects the way people choose friends and social activities. Men are more likely to choose other men as friends, and same with women. Humans enjoy spending time with people that are similar to themselves. Men will also engage in masculine activities such as hunting, fishing, and running, while women engage in feminine activities such as shopping, tanning, and reading. Gender subconsciously helps make our daily decisions. I’ve never thought about gender being such an important aspect in our daily lives. Gender affects socialization in so many different ways; parents raising their children, the work environment, and choosing friends. Gender socialization is extremely important in today’s society.

Essay --

The topic I choose was stress and its effects it has on our body (Myers). These stressors can cause many negative changes to our body, more then we realize. I have a much better understanding after reading not only the textbook but the research journal just what effects it has on our body. It’s easy to listen to people give advice on ways to calm down but I feel people need to be educated on what it does to us and healthy ways to deal with it. There are so many different day to day things that cause us stress and if we allow ourselves we can easily get caught up in them. For me at that point I tune everyone out and that is when those stressors dictate how my day will be. Personally, I realize more now how I have let stress bring me to a point of feeling ill and taking it out on loved ones around me. Now more then ever being a full time student and with recent financial burdens I have seen first hand how stress impacts not only myself but my family as well. We get so enthr alled in stress that we allow it to effect our mind and our body. Then we wake up one day and the stress is still there only we are feeling ill and wondering why. It is so true when people say that stress can cause you to become physically ill. There are so many healthy ways to manage stress however not everyone practices them. We need to use our support systems, identify what the stress is and manage it rather then it taking over us. If we find ways to face the stress, in a healthy way we will be able to resolve it and not have it take over our mind or body. I now find my self coming home after a stressful day and exercising, and going for walks. Instead of me shutting down and becoming stressed I know now that its okay to share this with my loved ones and ... ...cally ill and overwhelmed. By doing this I neglected myself, and by doing so not only did I not deal with stress but there was little resoultion and greater stress within my family. When you get to thast point it is then that the stress is dictating how your days are going to be. This study was very intresting to me and I believe futhur study would help everyone not just health care workers. It brought up many good points, stress is different for each of us and if we had mindfulness approaches then we could face it head on and not allow it to become a neagative outcome. I often wondered having gone to counsling myself in the past how do these therapist deal with listening to patients all day long? What steps do they take to deal with their own stress or just the stress of helping others. I feel the counslor would definitly benefit from this study and its practices.
